Gordon Birrell is the Executive Vice President of Production & Operations for bp and is accountable for the safe, reliable and efficient running of bp’s refineries and oil and gas production assets. This also includes responsibility for exploration and development of hydrocarbon resources. Prior to that, Gordon was bp’s Upstream Chief Operating Officer for Production, Transformation and Carbon. Gordon joined bp in 1986 and has extensive leadership experience including Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey; Head of Safety and Operational Risk for Upstream. He also held senior positions in Canada, Alaska and the North Sea. He was also COO and CEO of Upstream. He was chairman of the International Oil and Gas Producers Association (IOGP) for two years.

Gordon is a director and chair of the board of Azule Energy.

Gordon is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
