Druck Intern makes a splash at Commonwealth Championships

3 min read

Every year we have the pleasure of welcoming a new group of interns to Druck, helping them to gain on-the-job experience and develop new skills. We believe every intern brings a fresh perspective, new ideas and continue to play a valuable role right across the business.

Today we are spotlighting, Emily Robson, our Druck HSE intern, who recently took part in the 2023 Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships in Windsor, Canada –

How is your HSE internship going so far?

I’m thoroughly enjoying my internship at Druck, working on exciting projects alongside a fantastic team. I’m currently working on developing and improving the HSE Hub to help make HSE be more visible and accessible across the business.

You recently took part in the 2023 Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships, could you tell us a little bit more about the event?

I represented Team England at the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships in Windsor, Canada. The event took place from the 13th to the 17th of September. I had such an amazing time; I loved every minute! I am so grateful for my teammates who helped make the experience unforgettable!

This was my first time competing for my country, so I went into the competition with no expectations. The plan was to just enjoy the experience and hopefully achieve some personal bests! To come away with 3rd overall female in the competition was very unexpected, it still hasn’t sunk in!

What made you get into swimming and competing at a national level?

I started swimming when I was 4 years old and have been a competitive swimmer since the age of 8. I competed at National level and made the transition to Lifesaving Sport when I started university.

When I joined Loughborough University 2 years ago, I decided to join Loughborough Students Lifesaving Club. This gave me the perfect opportunity to carry on swimming as well as learn a new sport. Lifesaving Sport has taught me so many valuable skills, such as first aid, CPR and how to deal with an emergency situation.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I came away with a gold medal in the Dry Emergency Response, 5 silver medals in the pool and a bronze overall. I also had to pay a visit to doping control, an experience I won’t forget in a hurry!
