Join Druck celebrating Volunteers week!

3 min read

This week Druck is celebrating Volunteers Week, an annual initiative that recognises the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities.  Volunteers Week is a chance to say thank you, celebrate and inspire more to volunteer.  2023 marks the 39th year of Volunteers Week (1-7 June).

Druck has a very active group of volunteers who get involved in all sorts of volunteering activity either on-site or in the local community.

We caught up with Debra Farmer who leads Druck’s Volunteer Team to find out a little more about what they get up to, including details of a Summer Fete which she is organising for staff, their families and our neighbour.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your role at Druck?

I am Debra Farmer, Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Druck. I also support the Druck Leadership Team from the UK Headquarters in Leicestershire.  I have worked for Druck for just over a year - and what a place to work - the culture is just great, really inclusive, as are all the people.

We are all one big #DruckFamily.  I am very proud to say I work at Druck, a Baker Hughes business.

What's your role with the Druck Volunteering Group and who's involved in it?

I lead the Druck Volunteers Employee Resource Group (ERG) on site. This is a small group of Druck staff who volunteer, giving up their time to support local charities and organisations in our local community.

This year we have worked on garden renovations for a homeless charity, donated easter eggs to homeless children, created bug habitats in a local park, organised bag packing for a local hospice, just to name a few!

Is there anything else you're working on this summer?

I am currently busy organising a Summer Fete (hosted by Druck).  We’re inviting Druck colleagues (of course), but also their families.

We’re also inviting Druck’s neighbours in Groby (a small village near Leicester which has been home to Druck’s global headquarters for more than 50 years!).  I want it to be a good old fashioned Village Fete.  We’ll have a Punch & Judy show, the local pub setting up a pop-up bar, military vehicles, police car and fire engine on display, children’s rides, bouncy slides, face painter, jams and cakes for sale, stalls, tombola stalls for charity, a wartime singer.

We’re also organising football skills sessions with a semi-pro footballer, our very own Engineer Rebecca McGrother!  it promises to be a fun day out for all while also raising funds for local charities.

When’s that happening can you tell us more about it?

It’s happening on Saturday 17th June 2023 at The Meadow, off Newtown Linford Lane, Groby, Leicestershire.  Open to the public from 11am-5pm.  I’m just hoping for good weather, as that’s the only thing I cannot organise!
