Li Gao
Li Gao, Director General of the Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China. He obtained his Ph.D. from Tsinghua University and two Master degrees from Yale University and Tsinghua University respectively. In the past decades, Dr. Li served as Deputy Division Director and Division Director at the Administrative Center for China’s Agenda 21 of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Division Director, Deputy Director and Director General at the Climate Change Department under the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
Dr. Li has been responsible for the formulation of China’s strategies, plans and policies to address climate change. He led the work to propose China’s climate change action goals for 2020, 2030, and 2060. He is also leading the construction of China’s National Carbon Emission Trade System. He participated in the U.N. climate change negotiations as Deputy Head of the Chinese government delegation.
