Panametrics' technologies are enabling customers to achieve their decarbonization strategies.

Why Geothermal Energy? It is a renewable energy source because heat is continuously produced inside the earth. Even in geothermal areas dependent on a reservoir of hot water, the volume taken out can be reinjected, making it a sustainable energy source.

With a reach that extends across the globe, Panametrics’ critical measurement solutions for flow and steam are enabling geothermal operators to increase reliability, reduce its labor costs and improve the technology with advanced diagnostics.

Steam Flow Measurement
Brine Flow Measurement

Geothermal power plants use hydrothermal resources that have both hot water (from brine) and steam which is used to drive turbines connected to electricity generators for power generation. With a separator in place to segregate water and steam, the latter is transported to the steam turbines while water feeds the heat exchangers.

Geothermal steam flow measurement is crucial as it feeds multiple power plants. The amount of steam used must be reported to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), who require periodic reports to confirm that the amount of steam used is accurately monitored.

Geothermal brine flow measurement is crucial for the efficiency of the wells. Better understanding the flow rate enables customers, firstly to control and optimize brine flow; and secondly help determine the amount of scale and corrosion inhibitor required to be injected into the well to maintain or even increase productivity.

Flow measurement can have a positive impact on the well yield and subsequently the power generation production capacity.

Execution of production drilling and re-injection drilling for the specified development begins the process. To increase electrical output and performance, cooling system optimization – including towers and a pumping system – is required. The steam is unique in its chemical composition and contains dissolved gases, various dissolved salts or mechanical impurities. Optimized turbine design is essential, and is ensured by the appropriate choice of materials and size. To achieve the highest efficiency for steam cycles, the highest efficiency condensers are required. The separator separates steam from liquid. The steam is sent to the turbine, while the liquid is typically reinjected. To meet the demand for electric power, a fit-for- purpose generator is required.
