The Iconic Druck technology is back in aviation
What is an aeronautic leak tester and what is its primary function?
A leak tester is a portable device, used in the pitot static maintenance process to identify if a leak is present in the pitot static system and to what level. This device must be able to generate pressure and measure if there is a system leak and at what rate.
Druck's new DPI610E-Aero is a self-contained portable leak tester that allows users to complete a quick leak test on aircraft pitot and static systems without having to tie up an expensive pitot static tester which are usually required for more complex scheduled maintenance tasks.
Why is a leak test needed on an aircraft?
During aircraft maintenance, when any work is undertaken the pitot static system of an aircraft, a leak check must be completed to verify integrity. Any leaks in the avionics system will cause pressure changes resulting in false airspeed or altitude readings.
Maintaining accurate airspeed and altitude is a vital safety parameter for aircraft operations. If an aircraft’s airspeed or altitude is reading incorrectly due to pressure leaks, in-flight calculations become inaccurate.
Leak testing is therefore a vital part of MRO procedures, meaning the integrity of the equipment cannot be overlooked. Using accurate and reliable equipment is a necessity.
What are the common customer problems?
Whilst pitot static testers can perform leak tests during full maintenance processes, aviation technicians often require a quick leak test for low level, go/no-go testing. The portability of the often-cumbersome pitot static testers, whilst more than capable of performing this test, are limited due to the size and weight. They are also very often required for more complex scheduled maintenance tasks. This creates a gap in the arsenal of avionic technicians for a low cost, portable precision leak tester.
Where does a DPI610E-Aero fit into your avionic equipment portfolio?
Pitot static leak tester is not new to the avionics market; Druck has a pedigree of successful aerospace pressure equipment, including the DPI610A aircraft leak tester. The legacy DPI610A has been a staple of the MRO service providers equipment for decades. Though with aging technology and limited UI functionality, Druck has developed an upgraded leak tester, augmenting the most-loved features of its predecessor, combined with the latest pressure sensor technology.
The DPI610E-Aero builds on the design of the recently launched DPI610E “Iconic Druck” pressure calibrator which is quickly becoming a market favourite, winning “Calibrator of the Year” in 2023.
Retaining the rugged design and ergonomic handle, the DPI610E-Aero includes an extended battery life, intuitive, back-lit screen and long lifespan. Utilising Druck’s industry leading pressure technology, users can be sure of the data reliability, pressure generation efficiency and regulation compliance.
With a cost-effective price point, the reliable DPI610E-Aero is a lower cost alternative, resulting in less downtime, to tying up a pitot static test system for a s simple process. This time saving directly influences operational efficiencies, in terms of calibrations complete and aircraft leak tests.
