Druck overview
Druck, a Baker Hughes business, is known across the globe for its portfolio of high performance, accurate and stable pressure sensors and test and calibration equipment.
With more than 4,000 customers across 20 strategic sectors, Druck is an established market leader having successfully applied technological innovation, expertise and a focus on customers’ applications to the diverse and demanding world of pressure measurement.
History
Named after the German word for ‘pressure’, Druck was established in 1972 by two pioneering entrepreneurs, Mike Bertioli and John Salmon. Their vision was to invent and commercialise the world’s first silicon-based piezoresistive pressure sensors and become an industry leading multi-million-dollar business.
Now with more than 800 colleagues in two major manufacturing facilities in the UK and China, plus Engineering sites in the UK, China and India and several service centres across the globe, the company designs and manufactures industry leading products that are critical to the world’s infrastructure, all the while retaining the family centric culture and values from its humble beginnings 50 years ago.
Technology & Manufacturing
The heart of all Druck’s pressure sensing solutions is the sensing element, which is manufactured from silicon wafers in its state-of-the-art clean room facility in Leicester, UK, which processes more than 260 versions of silicon 24/7. Advanced robotics have more than tripled the efficiency of the silicon processing, leading to better quality and safer working practices.
Using this unique silicon processing capability Druck has developed thousands of pressure sensor and instrumentation products, many of which are customized solutions. For instance, its Trench Etched Resonant Pressure Sensor (TERPS) technology pushes the boundaries of innovation, has set new benchmarks in performance and is globally accepted as the most accurate and stable pressure sensor on the market.
Embracing a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, the company continues to invest in advanced manufacturing techniques and processes, including automation and robotics, that keeps it at the forefront of product quality and efficiency.
Markets and Applications
Druck technology enables customers to successfully operate, produce systems, monitor and/or control mission critical assets in harsh environments across the world’s most challenging applications.
Druck’s pressure sensors are integral to industries such as: aviation, rail, automobiles and motorsport; the manufacture of semi-conductors; climate action (through their use in the manufacture of transitional energy infrastructure, for example hydrogen); for industrial energy efficiency and meteorology; healthcare; the space sector; power generation; clean water provision; and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Across all these industries, there is no room for error when measuring pressure. Druck’s technologies are designed to provide unrivalled levels of accuracy, stability and reliability in the toughest environments.
Customer service
If innovation is the lifeblood of the business, then customer service is Druck’s heart. Every decision the company takes, has the customer front of mind. Developing critical sensor and instrumentation technologies that enables customers to unlock insights, optimize asset performance in the harshest environments is at Druck’s core.
People
Druck employs the most talented and committed people across the critical measurement sector. The company is proud of its exceptional retention rates with many of its employees choosing to dedicate most, if not all their careers, to the #DruckFamily. The company invests heavily in apprenticeships, graduates, mentorships and on-the-job training.
Recognizing internal talent and providing colleagues with opportunities to advance and achieve their potential remains a fundamental principle of Druck’s People Strategy. For example, the company’s structured ‘Technical Career Path’ enables career progression for technical and manufacturing roles which helps develop a deep domain of technical expertise, keeping the business at the forefront of innovation.
With four company values (Care, Lead, Grow, Collaborate) and several Employee Resource Groups, including a women’s network, volunteers, black employee network, enabled network, pride network and veterans, Druck is proud of its supportive, inclusive and diverse staff-base.
The #DruckFamily has a long track record of supporting the local community. In 2022 Druck: supported seven local charities; continued its STEM partnerships with local primary and secondary schools, plus Loughborough University; and Druck volunteers supported 17 local projects.
Environment
Druck’s technologies support a range of applications and sectors that are critical to the energy transition and combating climate change. The company also recognizes its responsibility to reduce its carbon footprint. Druck is on-target to become a net-zero carbon emissions company by 2050 through its ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ strategy and roadmap, which has already delivered a 26% reduction in its carbon footprint since 2012.
