Highlights

Benefits

  • Clean energy generation: energy previously dissipated as heat in pressure-reducing valves is recovered and converted to electricity
  • Lower operating costs: generated energy can supply water system operations, reducing dependence on external energy sources
  • Ease of integration: can be installed in existing systems, in/out of water, in any position, leveraging current infrastructure without major changes
Features

  • Includes completely integrated electric generator and turbine
  • Water-cooled mechanical and electrical system with no need for lubricants
  • Low maintenance costs with a long service life and low noise
Applications

  • Dams/reservoirs/rivers waterfalls
  • Water supplying systems

Overview

The Baker Hughes amphibious turbogenerator, licensed by HIGRA, in an integrated power generation system that can operate submerged in or out of water. It replaces reducing valves, uses waterfalls to generate energy, recovers energy from dam spillways (70% energy-recovery efficiency), and automates pressure in the distribution networks via remote control.

It is a completely integrated solution, including an electric generator and turbine. The high-performance electric generator is wet-type and cooled by fluid passing through the machine. The turbine is designed according to each application's operating conditions, using CFD tools to optimize geometry and efficiency.
