HOUSTON – Aug. 14, 2024 – Baker Hughes, an energy technology company, announced Wednesday the launch of InvictaSetTM, an industry-first regenerative cement system that provides a durable cement sheath to wells, enabling enhanced integrity and longevity across the lifecycle.
The innovative solution utilizes new chemistry to address the issues caused by both water and hydrocarbon migration. This novel approach mitigates the costly downtime associated with workovers to repair damaged conventional cement systems.
InvictaSet cement contains an embedded material that induces crystalline growth upon contact with both water and hydrocarbons. This reaction plugs and seals fractures and flow paths, providing strength to damaged areas and reducing the risks of sustained casing pressures. Sealed and activated in just 24 hours, InvictaSet reseals itself for effective zonal isolation through multiple damage cycles and in a wide range of field conditions.
“In the past, cement systems have been unable to tackle the challenge of hydrocarbon isolation while also addressing the equally important issue of water migration. Robust and versatile, InvictaSet provides a complete solution that delivers enhanced performance and profitability benefits across the entire well lifecycle,” said Akshaya Singh, Portfolio Director - Cementing at Baker Hughes. “We are committed to providing lifelong, reliable solutions to our global customers by innovating beyond convention. This latest launch confirms Baker Hughes as a pioneer and industry leader in this field.”
InvictaSet technology can be applied to wells that face risk of damage, pressure or stress, as well as in plug and abandonment operations at the end of life. InvictaSet is available now. Learn more on BakerHughes.com.
