Overview

Overview

Decarbonization targets drive the retirement of traditional thermal power plants and the increased adoption of non-synchronous technologies such as solar, wind, and increased use of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) electric power transmission.

To support increased renewable penetration, solutions are required to replace the missing key grid-stability characteristics of inertia, short-circuit contribution, and reactive power. Based on our proven BRUSH™ Power Generation DAX generators, our synchronous condensers offer all three—and are unique in their ability to provide both short-circuit contribution and inertia.

Synchronous condensers

We can also provide the following options as part of the solution:

  • Excitation (permanent magnet generator and automatic voltage regulator)
  • Main terminal cubicles with monitoring
  • Control and electric protection systems
  • Cooling system
  • Lubrication oil system
  • Switchgear
  • Flywheel (for increased inertia)
