Overview

Overview

Gain a clear and accurate picture of formation gas saturation behind casing with the GasView™ service from Baker Hughes. The industry’s first gas saturation quantification system, the GasView service delivers gas analysis with greater sensitivity and precision than conventional gas overlay interpretations.

Accurate analysis in any formation water

The GasView service incorporates several technical advances to quantify formation gas saturation behind your casing.

Three high-resolution gamma-ray detectors in the Reservoir Performance Monitor™ RPM-C instrument take additional measurements over longer spacing than conventional pulsed-neutron instruments. Because the instrument measures a larger volume of the reservoir, it is significantly more sensitive to the presence of gas-filled porosity. As a result, the instrument detects much smaller volumes of gas at a resolution required for accurate gas-saturation calculations.

The GasView service improves the accuracy of your saturation quantification with a comprehensive gas-response database. The database quantifies the expected response of the gas measurements for varying combinations of mineralogy, fluid density, and gas pressure and density. This information is captured in the GasView job planner, a predictive forward modeling tool that assists in optimizing logging and interpretive procedures. Because the GasView analysis does not depend on connate water salinity, measurements are accurate in all formation waters.

The GasView service brings greater clarity to your gas analysis with the Dynamic Gas Envelope (DGE™) interpretation, which accounts for variations in porosity and mineralogy in the saturation result. These variations are removed from the saturation solution, but they are included in the visual DGE representation for greater insight into the processing.

The resulting picture of tool response to the formation and its gas content, porosity, and mineralogy clearly shows the separate effects of these properties. The DGE interpretation gives you improved insight, a deeper understanding of the process, and greater confidence in the solution.

Broader reservoir knowledge

The GasView service has been deployed in thousands of wells for more than a decade. With each new deployment, the service consistently provides a more accurate and reliable method for identifying gas and measuring gas saturation behind casing.

And with increased instrument sensitivity, the GasView service gives you in-depth gas analysis in tighter porosities, larger boreholes, and more complex completions. The response characterization and DGE algorithm enhance analysis of problems encountered in three-phase reservoirs and formations undergoing pressure depletion.

The GasView service’s broad application range gives you greater knowledge of your reservoirs and the tools to manage them for optimal field production and maximum profitability.
